I’m the reason for all of this. They call me a killer, a monster, a terrorist. I’m all of these things.

This was an exercise in immediacy. Some videos take me several hours, some take many days, and some take weeks. This one only took a few hours. Two Steps from Hell uploaded this song to their channel today, so I wanted to ride the wave. And though there are obviously things I want to change, the challenge was putting together a video I could feel comfortable releasing before the day was over.

I’m grateful to have been a part of such a fun project. Mediajuice Studios conceptualized and pitched the idea to Gearbox Software, and they hired us to bring it to life.

A story like Romeo and Juliet, except they kill anyone standing in their way. I’ve been a fan of the Assassin’s Creed series for a long time, though I didn’t actually play them until the third or fourth had been released. This is (among other things) an attempt to use musical themes to represent certain factions, a la John Williams. The heroic main theme represents the humans, and it makes multiple appearances each time they come on screen. But if you listen closely you can hear that not all is well with this particular group of humans. Very early in the video, for example, you’ll hear the change in the melody that coincides with the revelation that the beasts they are subduing are actually a family. The humans clearly see them as sub-human, which sets the stage for the rest of the story.

This video was based on a short film that Rob Zombie created for Assassin’s Creed Unity, a video game that focuses on the French revolution. I combined it with a White Zombie remix by Charlie Clouser for obvious reasons. You almost forget the two weren’t made for each other.

This is just a first draft. It was mostly just a test and a learning experience. It was one of the first music videos I ever edited, and it was also the first time I tried using a metal song.
