I honestly don’t believe that (the vast majority of) Obama’s critics are racist, but for many people the word “socialist” has replaced the word “nigger.” It’s definitely not about race, but it’s definitely the worst pejorative they can use publicly. And ultimately it means the same thing: I hate you for what you are.
